Meet Eric Carlsen- Senior VP of Sales & Marketing @ Meriplex

Erik Carlsen is the SVP of Sales and Marketing at Meriplex, a full-service managed services and cybersecurity provider for mid-market companies.

Erik’s journey into marketing began with an internship at a Tampa agency founded by former Leo Burnett executives. This experience sparked his passion for combining art and business in marketing.

With a background in global satellite companies and enterprise managed services, Erik recognized a gap in the mid-market IT services space. This insight led him to join Meriplex.

At Meriplex, Erik oversees marketing, business development, and sales. He approaches marketing like an artist’s studio, encouraging creativity while maintaining alignment with company goals.

Erik believes in education-based marketing and focuses on customer outcomes rather than technical features. He advocates for balancing new technologies like AI with timeless marketing principles.

Check out Erik Carlsen's thoughts on marketing strategy

When it comes to his go-to-market strategy approach, Erik shares:

When you understand the customer, their environment, and how they need to buy for their superiors, you realize that companies don’t buy from individuals within an organization; they buy to meet their own needs.

He also shares his perspective on content creation and distribution:

Content creation is easy; content distribution is much harder. I follow Seth Godin’s philosophy of publishing—let’s not get caught up in the pursuit of perfection.

Erik reveals how he is leveraging Gen AI in content marketing:

"I think those tools are great idea generators—they're like free brainstorming sessions. If you're looking to gauge the consensus of the global population, that's where you go."
